ADAPT was initially a pilot project for the former ADAPT Trust
UK, to promote equality for disabled people through accessibility
to arts venues.
Since 1996, we have expanded beyond the Trust’s grant-making
remit developing a local reputation both as a leading accessibility
consultant and as a provider of a comprehensive programme of practical
support to Cultural, Arts and Leisure venues throughout N Ireland.
Statistics show that 21% of the population in NI is affected by
a disability. ADAPT is working to ensure that a more accessible
environment is created to enable all people to interact on equal
terms.
ADAPT promotes accessibility to arts centres, theatres, concert
halls, libraries, museums and public galleries, community centres
and other heritage and leisure venues where social activities take
place. We offer advice, training and practical support.
We design and deliver capacity building projects that encourage
awareness, integration, and employment opportunities. We want to
enhance the infrastructure for disabled people by creating positive
attitudes and changing hearts and minds on the myths and preconceptions
that surround disability. We proactively encourage and support people
of all abilities to get involved at every level of the planning
and delivery of ADAPT activities and events.
“ADAPT places the decision making power in the hands
of those who will be affected by decisions”
To ensure our user-led ethos for participation and involvement
of disabled people, we work closely with Advisory & Activities
Committees – volunteers from across N Ireland who support
accessibility objectives and contribute to the delivery of information
and support services in their respective local areas.
Please contact ADAPT on 9023 1211 or email info@adaptni.org
to express an interest, or to get more involved in helping to Build
Equality and Inclusion for all in culture, arts and leisure venues;
“Teamwork divides the task and multiplies the success.”
